Week 19: Callouses, Love Songs, and Sweat!

WOW! What a week!

This is a testimony that missionaries are not perfect: So, we are still teaching our investigator Sarah and we were working with her and DJ to move their date up to be married. We knew that as soon as she got married, she could get baptized! After all that's why she wanted to get married, right? WRONG! Haha, sometimes we just get so excited when people want to make and keep commitments that we overlook how they might be feeling. I was sitting in Sacrament Meeting on Sunday thinking about Sarah and a very humbling thought popped into my head. I realized that Sarah is a woman and this is her first wedding. Your wedding is something you dream about for a long time as a girl and we had totally overlooked that! She wants this day to be really special for her and DJ, and we didn't even see it!  Haha, but now we do and we are going to help her with members of the ward to plan and arrange her wedding! Yay!

Okay, we also had a bunch of awesome miracles this week! One was that a less-active in our ward, Sister Runkles, let us in for the second time in about two weeks! She hadn't let missionaries in for a while. But, she loves to sit down and talk with us! Her heart is being softened!

Another miracle was when we were driving around town looking for a neighborhood to knock doors in and we pulled over in a cute little neighborhood. As soon as we got out of the car I had the impression to knock on this house right across the street. I said, "Okay, we will. But first we're going to knock on this one." Remember, missionaries are imperfect. Haha, as we started to walk to the other house, a man walked out of the house I had the impression to knock on. He was bringing his trash cans out to the curb. So, we walked up to him and started talking to him and had a very friendly conversation. His name is Luke and he is dating a girl named Heather and he had just found out that Heather is expecting! Whoa! So, we shared with him that we had been inspired to talk to him and that we would love to share our message with him as it provides a stable foundation for families to grow on! We will teach him this week! (That's a statement of faith. No return appointment yet )

We also started teaching Mareina!! Mareina is dating a member of our ward Jacob White who served his mission in Albuquerque. If anybody knows him, let me know! Anyway, Mareina was brought up very conservative Christian and she moved out of her parents house in October or so. Her parents didn't agree that she should move out or stop going to church, but she decided to take a break and really figure out what she wanted. Before dating Jacob, she heard crazy RUMORS about Mormons (conception of Christ, not believing in Bible, not Christian...the whole bit) and she was surprised to find out that Jacob was Mormon. Then she started to ask him questions and wanting to learn more and eventually asked to come to church with him! She has been coming for about a month and we just taught her about the Holy Ghost and the Restoration this past week!

So, the callouses, love songs, and sweat...this week we are without a car. So we started biking yesterday but it feels like we have been biking for a week! That explains the callouses and sweat. As for the love songs...the young women in our ward did a camp fundraiser this past week singing love songs for Valentine's Day, and we were enlisted to help. I don't think I've ever felt more awkward on my mission haha we sang L-O-V-E and I Can't Help Falling in Love With You to a few people...oh boy. I'm going to be really awkward in 14 months....

Well, I love you all and thanks for the prayers, love and support! Keep praying for me and my companion and all those we work with! We love you!!

Love,

Sister Lewis
